Trance music is a 1990s genre of electronic dance music. Like house, trance uses a relentless drum and bass pattern because it, too, is dance music. Unlike the loops we heard in the earlier breaks example and the sampling we heard in the previous house track, trance uses samples more freely.

Notice the compositional freedom this example displays. The texture is carefully built and modified throughout the cut. It has a free-form feeling with more contrast than the first two examples. Trance implies an introspective experience, and the vehicle for this experience is the music. Although a derivative of house and techno, trance is considered more music-and listener-centered rather than a genre strictly for dancing.
